The BCF Statement of Faith

The Bible is the holy, inspired Word of God.  It is without error and is fully true and trustworthy.  It is the final authority in all matters, and is the standard by which we judge our experiences and discern reality. There is One True Living God, who sovereignly rules over all of creation.  He is revealed in the Bible as Father, Son, and Spirit.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, being one with the Father, fully divine and fully human.  The Holy Spirit is fully divine, proceeding from the Father and Son. Man, in his natural state, is sinful, disobedient and rebellious to the will of God, and is under the curse of death, which is separation from God's presence, finally resulting in eternal suffering under the just wrath of God.

Salvation is reconciliation with God.  It is a free gift of grace, given by God, bought by the death and resurrection of Jesus, offered as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins, to be received by faith. God's grace include his works of election, sanctification, and preservation by which he begins and completes the work of salvation in us, and changes us over time to be conformed to the image of Christ.   All believers are exhorted to endeavor to pursue a life of personal holiness, knowing they will have to give an account to God for their every thought, word, and deed.

Believers receive the Holy Spirit at conversion, and are empowered by him for Christian life and witness. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are available today for the building up of the church and the advance of the Kingdom.

Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water as their public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ.

The Lord's Supper is a meal for believers that memorializes the death of Christ and anticipates his return. The church is made up of baptized believers who covenant together to worship and serve God and to practice Christian community.

The mission of the Church is the making of disciples through the proclamation of the good news of the Kingdom of Christ throughout the world.

We anticipate the visible return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, the judgment of the just and the unjust, and the fulfillment of Christ's kingdom in the new heaven and the new earth.
